Caught In the Act: The CIA Operations Challenge

Are you a musician without a venue? Are your friends always bugging you to get on stage? Then we’ve got an offer for you!  Just bring a handful (or more) of your peeps to check us out at one of our regular bar shows. In exchange, you’re welcome to join us on stage to sing and/or play with us.  That’s right: bring a few folks to any FBI gig and you will become an honorary member of the FBI with an opportunity to join us on stage for a couple of tunes. If you give us enough advance notice, we will advertise your appearance on our website and our monthly e-mail blast. If the folks you bring with you send us digital photos of your performance we will post them to our FBI Most Wanted page.

We are a highly improvisational and adaptive band and we’ll try anything once. If you want to play it safe you may learn 1 or 2 of the tunes we play (see the FBI Agenda for details), or e-mail us with a tune you might like us to learn (funk, blues and rock standards, please). If you are an improvisational player then just let us know when you’d like to sit in (see the FBI Itinerary for performance dates). Drummers, bassists, keyboardists, guitarists and singers are welcome to use our instruments and microphones or you may bring your own. Horn players should bring horn, microphone and mic stand (we have spare mics but yours are probably better).

Please feel free to bring other musicians. This idea is all about networking with other musicians and making music. It’s about building a sense of community amongst musicians in Connecticut. Certainly we hope to give ourselves a boost in terms of exposure but we think that we can also serve as a vehicle for introducing musicians to each other and offer performance opportunities to those of you who can’t or don’t gig regularly.

FBI Code of Regulations, Section § 979.10 (Rules of Engagement)

• You must bring people with you in order to participate (I wouldn't be any fun w/o your friends there to see you)
• Our rehearsal time is limited, so we can’t promise to honor all requests to learn tunes
• Although we have an extra, we do recommend that you bring your own microphone
• You may bring your instrument but do not bring amps & pedals (we have plenty of those)
• You must contact us in advance unless you are a close, personal friend of the FBI
• If we can tell that you’re wasted, we can also tell you that you can’t come on stage
• Please have a working knowledge of your instrument; we can’t play it for you
• Honorary FBI membership does not include payment, or drinks on the house
• We may buy you drinks, commensurate with your talent and attitude
• We will buy you drinks if you turn out lots of people
